Liner Notes for Selected Songs from Jeremy's Crazy Christmas CD 1. Drummer Boy Promo, by Smilin Jay - I found this on Fark.com on December 18, as I was about to start putting this compilation together. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had to include it, and that it had to push the next track to the second position. 2. Christmas Is Almost Here, by The Arrogant Worms 3. I Won't Be Home For Christmas, by Blink 182 - It was this song that first made me think of making this compilation. Its spirit reminded me of a song that Al made up years ago, "Christmas is Cancelled". As I was running through possible ways of giving him this song, I had the idea for this collection, and then I decided to make it more general, to share with all of my friends and family. 4. Christmas Turkey Blues, by The Arrogant Worms 5. Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass, by The Arrogant Worms - I apologise for the strong language used in this song. When choosing songs for this collection, I did make an effort to keep the profanity to a minimum. For this song, I felt that the spirit of the song made the language dramatically acceptable. 6. The Christmas Song, by The Arrogant Worms 7. Santa Got Arrested, by The Arrogant Worms - This song deals with the legal issues involved in someone breaking into houses at Christmas time. 8. Christmas Sucks, by The Arrogant Worms 9. Oh God, I'm Santa Claus!, by The Arrogant Worms 10. The Night Santa Went Crazy, by Weird Al Yankovic - I had the choice of Regular vs Extra Gory version for this collection. So of course I chose the Extra Gory version. The lyrics for the last verse of the Regular version, which start at "Yes, Virginia", are: Yes, Virginia, now Santa's doing time In a federal prison for his infamous crime Hey, little friend, now don't you cry no more tears He'll be out with good behavior in 700 more years But now Vixen's in therapy, and Donner's still nervous And the elves all got jobs working for the postal service And they say Mrs. Claus, she's on the phone every night With her lawyer negotiating the movie rights 11. Christmas at Ground Zero, by Weird Al Yankovic - This was possibly the first alternative Christmas song I ever heard, and to this day it remains one of my favorites, both for its content and for the concept itself. The album this came on debutted in October, 1986, so although it was written towards the end of the Cold War, nuclear war was still a very real threat at the time. 12. Snoopy's Christmas, by The Royal Guardsmen - I considered putting the other two Snoopy vs The Red Baron songs in this collection, but decided against to keep it a purely Christmas album. If anybody wants the other two songs (which come before this one in the storyline), I can help. 13. Father Christmas, by The Kinks 14. Mad Russian Christmas, by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra - I have often felt that modern instuments, particularly the electric guitar, have not received the attention and credit they deserve as legitimate instruments. In the last quarter of this track particularly, the electric guitar, playing The Russian's Dance from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite", adds an element of depth and feeling to the music that I've never felt in an orchestral rendition. I believe that the choice of this instrument gives the piece a power its composer desired, but had not the ability to achieve. Consider these thoughts as you enjoy the next few pieces by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. 15. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - Angels We Have Heard On High, by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra 16. Carol of the Bells, by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra 17. Christmas Canon, by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra 18. The Ghosts of Christmas Eve, by The Trans-Siberian Orchestra 19. Santa's Stoned at Christmas, by Kevin Bloody Wilson - Kevin Bloody Wilson is an Australian folk singer. I present here his only songs that aren't full of strong language. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to provide seperately "Kristmas Without Snow", "Kristmas on the P*ss", "Ho Ho F**king Ho", "Frosty the Yobbo", and "Hey Santa Claus, You C*nt". 20. Tattoo of Santa, by Kevin Bloody Wilson 21. Jingle Bells, by Sailor Mercury - I included this track for two reasons. First, for the experience of a Japanese christmas song. I figured that any more would get tedious for those of you who don't speak Japanese, but just one, based on a well-known song, might be about right. Second, I invite you to try appreciating this song without the interference of language. Often times, we allow what is being said to influence our enjoyment of something, and that influence sometimes causes us to lose enjoyment of the experience. Let your mind relax. Don't focus on the words so much as on the medoly and the dulcet tones of the singer's voice. 22. Christmas Hangover, by The Arrogant Worms - This seemed like an appropriate way to end the collection.
